Hebrides Guest House

Grimisdale Guest House on the Isle of Harris in the Outer HebridesHebrides guest house accommodation is amongst the best in the world. Not only is it totally luxurious but the hospitality is out of this world and very hard to beat.

The Hebrides have long been known for their incredible hospitality which has played an important role in the region's history. At one time all the lands of the Hebrides were ruled by the clan leaders and there was a special code of conduct. One of these rules meant that a person often had to offer hospitalitality to somebody they may not have really liked.

The laws of hospitality were famously tested by Bonnie Prince Charlie after he failed at Culloden and fled for his life. Though the story has, over the years, been heavily romanticised there were moments when his very life depended on the hospitality of strangers. One such instance was on the Hebridean island of Scalpay just off the Isle of Harris. Charlie had turned up on the island with his enemies in hot pursuit. Even though the factor (the person who rented the land from the landlord and sublet it to tenants) was in opposition to Prince Charlie, through the laws of hospitality, he had to give him food, shelter and safety.
